Michael Carnahan

Michael Carnahan is a Tony Award nominee and two-time Emmy nominated scenic designer whose work spans theater, television, and live performance. His designs are recognized for their bold architectural storytelling and their rich sense of culture, encompassing Broadway productions, international musicals, world premieres of new plays, and nationally televised events.

His Broadway credits include Ruben Santiago-Hudson's Lackawanna Blues and Dominique Morisseau's Skeleton Crew, for which he received a Tony Award nomination. Internationally, he designed Billy Elliot the Musical and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in São Paulo, Brazil. Michael has designed world premieres by some of America's leading playwrights, including Katori Hall, Dominique Morisseau, Lauren Gunderson, Noah Haidle, and Quiara Alegría Hudes, as well as acclaimed productions of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson and the New York premiere of the long-running musical The Marvelous Wonderettes.

Michael is also the scenic designer for Live with Kelly & Mark at Disney/ABC, where his work has earned two Emmy Award nominations. He holds a B.F.A. from the Savannah College of Art and Design and an M.F.A. from the University of Illinois. He lives in Brooklyn with his dog, Frankie. michaelcarnahandesign.com
